Motivation & Insight Into Dentistry 14
Should NHS dentist charges be scrapped?
Excellent Candidate Approach
I believe NHS dentist charges should be scrapped, or at least reduced or simplified. In many cases, these charges, although low, are complicated for patients to understand. Therefore, they form a barrier to accessing dental services, so many patients only seek the dentist when they are in pain. At that point, it is often too late. I believe that a simpler fee structure could encourage patients to attend for check-ups and allow dentists to intervene before dental disease sets in. It could also reduce inequality between different income groups, as everyone would be able to easily access a dentist.
