Motivation & Insight Into Dentistry 19
What are the arguments for and against the fluoridation of water supplies?
Excellent Candidate Approach
Fluoride in water has shown to be effective at reducing rates of tooth decay. From a public health perspective, water fluoridation is beneficial, especially for underprivileged households where healthcare access is scarce. This preventative measure can provide savings on dental care in the long run. However, opponents of water fluoridation are concerned about violation of their rights, as they no longer have a choice to refuse fluoridation. I believe that is important to balance these two viewpoints, and water fluoridation should be an ongoing discussion and compromise.
