GP Stage 3 Written Prioritisation Exercise 4 Answers
You are an SHO on the geriatric ward, and are required to leave in one hour for your GP Stage 3 Interview. Being late is not an option. You are faced with the following tasks.
A. One of the medical students on the ward has asked for your assistance to complete a patient presentation, which is scheduled for tomorrow. You have previously scheduled to assist the student twice in the last week, however have had to cancel on each occasion due to ward commitments.
B. One of the medical students on the ward has asked you to sign his DOPS for taking bloods. The student reports that your colleague, who is now on holiday, had observed him complete the task but merely forgot to sign the necessary forms. You have not previously seen the student take blood from a patient. The deadline for submitting DOPS is 22:00 today.
C. Mrs Jones, a newly admitted patient with suspected pneumonia is refusing IV antibiotics, stating that he wishes to instead try herbal remedies.
D. You hear a staff nurse who is conducting the late afternoon drug round shout for help; you can see that she is alongside a patient who is short of breath.
E. One of your colleagues on the ward has asked to speak to you, stating that they are ‘struggling to cope’ and feel that they need some time off.
