GP Stage 3 Written Prioritisation Exercise 8
You are a surgical SHO who is covering a range of surgical specialties today due to rota gaps.
A. A theatre nurse has bleeped you about a patient who is due to have an elective knee replacement; she is concerned that the patient does not have capacity despite an operative consent form being signed stating otherwise. The nurse has requested your immediate assistance given that the patient is next on the theatre list, and due in theatre within ten minutes.
B. The family of a patient who you saw last week in A&E have come back and asked the receptionist if it is possible to see you, so that they can give you a gift as a gesture of their appreciation.
C. A staff nurse has just bleeped you about an elderly gentleman who is scheduled to have a AAA repair later today, and has just collapsed in the admissions lounge. She has requested your immediate assistance.
D. The ward nurse has bleeped you stating that Mr Jones, who you know to be a post-operative relapsing cancer patient is reporting significant pain. His most recent observations were unremarkable, and the nurse requests that you prescribe additional analgesia.
E. One of your SHO colleagues has called you, asking for your assistance stating that he is currently in the doctor’s mess and has taken a whole packet of diazepam, which he now regrets.
