You are working in a diabetes clinic and are reviewing Mr Stephen’s diabetes. His current BMI is 28 despite being on the maximum dose of metformin. He also takes gliclazide. His HbA1c is 9.5% (Normal range <6.0%, Pre-diabetes 6-0% - 6.4%, Diabetes >6.5%) and on examination, he has neuropathy developing in his feet. He is also on ramipril 10 mg, simvastatin 40 mg and aspirin 75 mg daily. His blood pressure was 130/80 mmHg and his total cholesterol was 4.0 mmol/L. What would you discuss with the patient regarding his condition?
