Make sure that you review the official most up to date course information, found on the official respective university websites.
Excellent Candidate Response
NUS: Year 1 is part of Phase 1, where I will learn about physiology, also known as “Normal Structure and Function”. In addition, I will also be learning about more holistic areas of medicine under the “longitudinal tracks”, such as health ethics, law and professionalism; medicine & society; information literacy; patient-based programme; clinical skills foundation programme and integrated care.
NTU: I will be learning in a modular form, based on the different body systems, while using team-based learning, hands on science, anatomy practicals and patient contact in order to fully consolidate my learning. In first year, I will be learning about the cardiorespiratory, endocrine, renal-urinary, musculoskeletal and dermal systems before the end of year examinations.
Duke-NUS: The first year will be under my “pre-clerkship” where I would learn about different areas of diseases, including molecules, cells and tissues for 6 weeks, human structure and function for 13 weeks, brain and behavior for 5 weeks and body and disease for 18 weeks. At the same time, I would participate in the “Foundations of Clinical Practice” modules which would help to consolidate my learning, develop vital clinical skills and improve my communication skills.
