Excellent Candidate Response
Observation skills are essential in clinical practice, with estimates suggesting that up to 50% of diagnoses are made on initial inspection and observation, and thus require limited further history or examination. Clinical examples of this could be for example a stroke, where a patient may have a facial asymmetry with unilateral weakness or a heart attack where a person may be seen to exhibiting a pained facial expression and localising to the left side of their chest.
Additionally, it is important to be able to offer an objective impartial assessment of an image (or a patient) without too many prejudices or personal opinions, and this case tests one’s ability to apply that. Finally, this task also assesses one’s ability to communicate effectively and accurately which is essential in a medical setting, for example if you are discussing a patient with a senior colleague.
